Welcome back from a long weekend!
The students came into school today ready to learn! I was so impressed how well the students remembered the daily routine and how our classroom works... Even after a 3-day weekend.
Today I introduced new Literacy Work Stations to the students. These included a Pocket Chart Work Station, Making Words Work Station and Handwriting Work Station. Not only did we add several new Work Stations, but we added new ideas to the Work Stations we have been doing since the first week of school. This week, we are focusing on: continuing to recognize letters and sounds, matching upper and lowercase letters, practicing our handwriting, and adding details to illustrations.
This afternoon, we read Shape Space by Cathryn Falwell. Shape Space is about a girl who uses shapes to imagine different ways of building and playing with them. We then went on a "Shape Hunt" around the classroom to find rectangles, triangles, and circles in our very own room.
We are continuing to study colors and shapes in our classroom, as well as recognizing a new member of our classroom each day for the Name Game.
I am looking forward to a wonderful week with the students.
